President Claudia Sheinbaum signed a key agreement at the National Palace to ensure stability in the price of a kilo of tortillas and seek to reduce it. This pact brings together key players in the corn production chain.
President Claudia Sheinbaum signed the National Corn-Tortilla Agreement. This pact was finalized at the National Palace and was attended by producers, marketers, flour millers, nixtamal producers, and tortilla makers. The main objective is to strengthen the entire production chain.
Within the framework of this agreement, the aim is to guarantee stability in the price of a kilo of tortilla. According to the meeting, there is the possibility of gradually reducing it over the next six months.
During the meeting, which lasted about an hour and a half, a clear goal was set: to reduce the cost of a kilo of tortilla by 10 percent. This reduction is projected to extend throughout the six-year term, provided the conditions agreed upon by the parties involved in the agreement are met.
Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of collaboration between different sectors. She believes this synergy is essential to optimize corn production and distribution. The ultimate goal is to ensure fair prices for both producers and end consumers.
The signing of this National Corn-Tortilla Agreement marks an effort to address tortilla prices at their source, seeking benefits for the entire supply chain and consumers. The success of the 10% reduction goal will depend on future conditions and collaboration.
