Two ministers take office tomorrow amid expectations for changes

Two important ministers will assume their positions on Wednesday as a result of the changes that President Luis Abinader has made prior to National Independence Day. In addition, the possibility remains open that more movements will be announced before or after the accountability of this Thursday, February 27.
The president decided to change the heads of the institutions that work in four fundamental areas of his government : Education , Public Works , Culture and Labor. Two of them, Education and Public Works , manage the first and third highest budgets of the public administration.
Eduardo Estrella will become Minister of Public Works and his predecessor, Deligne Ascención, will retain the category of minister , but without portfolio. Luis Miguel De Camps will be sworn in as Minister of Education in place of Ángel Hernández, who will become honorary advisor to the Executive Branch.
The new Ministers of Culture and Labor, Roberto Ángel Salcedo and Eddy Olivares, took office at the beginning of February, as did dozens of deputy ministers and directors who replaced the previous incumbents.
Luis Miguel De Camps will be the third Minister of Education of the Abinader administration. The first was Roberto Fulcar.
Now it is his responsibility to guide the transformation process to improve the quality of learning for Dominican students , who have not made significant progress despite investing a budget equivalent to 4% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Their work should be guided by the guidelines of the Ten-Year Plan Horizon 2034, which contains the strategies defined by the Government for the sector over the next 10 years.
The returnMeanwhile, Eduardo Estrella will return to head Public Works after 31 years. Estrella held that position from 1991 to 1994, during the last government of Joaquín Balaguer . Between 1986-1990 he had been undersecretary.
He and his party, Dominicanos por el Cambio, have been allies of President Abinader since 2020, when he won the Santiago Senate seat. From then on, he was president of the Senate thanks to the support of the PRM.
