Yeni Berenice and legislators fine-tuned the Penal Code before its approval.

Everything was ready for the debate and approval of the Penal Code bill, but a visit from Yeni Berenice Reynoso changed the agenda and they agreed to make a final review to provide the Public Ministry with a better legal instrument to punish crime in the country.
Reynoso arrived at the National Congress around noon and left around 5:00 p.m. without making any statements to reporters .
Later, a delegation of deputies and senators from all parties traveled to the headquarters of the Attorney General's Office to continue the talks .
Alfredo Pacheco , the speaker of the House of Representatives, had indicated earlier this morning that legislators would debate the proposal in the afternoon and vote on it starting at 8:00 p.m. However, the second reading of the bill would not be approved until tomorrow.
Pacheco indicated that, during the night of this Thursday, the teams from the Attorney General's Office , the Senate , the Chamber of Deputies, as well as the technical teams from both chambers will work on improvements to the project approved by the Senate last Monday the 21st.
He explained that they have already identified the areas for improvement and that the deputies will receive a report on the changes this Friday before proceeding with approval .
The session is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
"We're achieving a broad opportunity for more internal sectors of this chamber to support the code," Pacheco said.
Changes in the SenateIn a document sent to the Senate , the Attorney General's Office made more than 120 observations on the bill , in which it requested the addition of fines to the sections that only contemplated imprisonment. It also suggested improving the wording of other points.
He also requested the elimination of articles that would impede the work of police officers and the Public Prosecutor's Office in arresting individuals. Some were removed, while others were merely amended.
Senators accepted more than 90% of these observations and approved it on second reading last Monday.
If approved on Friday, the legislation must immediately return to the Senate to validate the lower house's amendments, and would then become law on Saturday, the last day of the legislative session.
