Beware of emails asking you to pay tuition: several universities warn that it's a scam.

Students from various universities have been receiving emails purporting to be from their school, notifying them of a supposedly late tuition fee of €850 , which must be paid by bank transfer. This is something you've asked the Maldita.es WhatsApp chatbot (+34 644 229 319) about. The goal of these messages is to obtain the victims' personal and banking information or their money.
The fraudulent message was sent to Esade students and included the university logo and an email address pretending to be from the institution (account@esade[.]live) to send proof of payment, but the university clarified that it does not belong to the institution . On social media, Esade described the email as "a new phishing attempt" and reminded students of the importance of reporting the scam to the authorities and contacting their bank if they have been deceived.
In this regard, The University of Deusto issued a statement to its students reminding them that they will never request "payments or confidential information via email" without using official channels.
For its part, the Comillas Pontifical University said on its Twitter account (now X) that all "management regarding tuition payments is done on the official platform or the intranet."
To avoid falling prey to this type of fraud, it's important to check the sender's address , verify the authenticity of the website before entering data, avoid downloading unknown attachments, and be wary of messages that seem urgent. It's also recommended to confirm the information with the institution or the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) .
If personal or banking information has already been provided, evidence of the fraud should be gathered and reported to the National Police or Civil Guard . You should also contact your bank to discuss blocking or replacing the card.
