Extremadura will have the first quantum emulation service for companies and researchers.

The Extremadura Supercomputing Center (COMPUTAEX), part of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Vocational Training, will soon launch the region's first quantum emulation service , reinforcing its commitment to technological transformation.
This new resource will allow Extremadura researchers, institutions, and companies to access advanced quantum computing capabilities.
The initiative includes an investment of €600,000 for the acquisition of Extremadura's first quantum emulator, a specialized infrastructure for executing quantum algorithms that will complement the high-performance resources already available at the Supercomputing Center. Funding has been obtained through the EQC2024 Scientific and Technical Equipment program, within the Quantum Emulation Service for the Advancement of Scientific and Technical Research in Extremadura project. 85% of the funding is co-financed by the State Research Agency (AEI) with ERDF funds, and the remaining 15% by the Regional Government of Extremadura, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Vocational Training.
Since 2021, COMPUTAEX has been consolidating its commitment to quantum computing through projects such as Quantum Spain, QCS Lusitania, and ExQNet, which is one of the center's main lines of research.
Furthermore, at the international level, the Foundation also collaborates with the RIKEN RQC Fujitsu Collaboration Center in Japan , through an agreement that will allow COMPUTAEX researchers to train and develop scientific contributions using the cutting-edge resources that the RIKEN center offers in the field of quantum emulation.
With the launch of this emulator, Extremadura joins the small group of autonomous communities , such as Madrid, Catalonia, the Basque Country, and Galicia, that already have quantum computing capabilities.
In anticipation of the arrival of this quantum emulator, COMPUTAEX has obtained access to Fujitsu's quantum emulation services through an agreement to access its resources at the RIKEN RQC-Fujitsu Collaboration Center in Japan.
The objective of COMPUTAEX is not only to provide access to this technology, but also to support users through advisory services, training, and knowledge transfer . This service will mark the beginning of a new era for the region, strengthening its digital ecosystem and aligning with the strategic objectives of digitalization and innovation defined by the European Union.
COMPUTAEX continues to establish new collaborations with public and private entities, both national and international, to explore the opportunities offered by this new computing paradigm.
