Two tourists arrested for attempting to make a €4,000 hotel transfer using a fake AI

Artificial Intelligence is a technology that allows us, and as it continues to develop, will allow us to do things that were previously impossible for us. We already see this, for example, when generating images, in a matter of seconds we obtain an image that we couldn't have created otherwise, or that would have taken a graphic design specialist much longer.
And like this, there are thousands of other examples of actions or tasks in which AI helps us enormously and saves us a lot of time and work. The problem is that, just as there are positive aspects, we also find that there are malicious uses of this technology.
We've already seen cybercriminals use AI to crack passwords in seconds , as well as to design fraudulent messages, fake websites, and the like . There are endless possibilities for exploiting AI in malicious ways, like these two tourists at your hotel in Cambrils.
It happened this week, when two tourists who were about to leave the hotel where they had been staying claimed they had already paid the bill they owed , which amounted to €4,171.68 . To prove it, they presented proof of a bank transfer, but there was a catch.
This receipt had been manipulated using AI , and contained a series of irregularities that raised alarm bells for the hotel employees. Furthermore, since they had no record of having received any transfer for that amount, they decided to call the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police), who arrested the tourists after verifying that it was an image of the transfer manipulated by AI, accusing them of document forgery and fraud.
