BAJA CALIFORNIA (apro).- Legislator Fidel Mogollón Pérez, accused of beating his wife and throwing her from a car in October 2024, was unanimously appointed as deputy secretary of the new Board of Directors of the Baja California State Congress.

With a history that includes being expelled from the Morena party last year for the same reason, six preliminary investigations, and currently being investigated by the Baja California State Attorney General's Office (FGE) for domestic violence, he appeared smiling on the team, which also includes three women.

"I am pleased to announce the formation of the new Board of Directors that will lead the work of the First Ordinary Period of the Second Year of the 25th Legislature, of which your servant is a member," he said in a message posted on his official account on July 31.

According to the committee, Mogollón Pérez will be standing shoulder to shoulder with Jaime Cantón, president; María Teresa Méndez, vice president; Michelle Tejeda, secretary; and Teresa Ruiz, secretary-counter; they will be there from August 1 to November 30, depending on the dates.

In this regard, the representative congratulated the new president of Congress, who before becoming a local legislator was private secretary to Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda.

"I want to congratulate my colleague and friend, Representative Jaime Cantón, on his recent appointment as President of the Baja California State Congress. I fully trust that, under his leadership, this legislature will continue to work responsibly and with commitment to the well-being of Baja Californians. Congratulations!" the statement read.

Regarding the charges against Fidel Mogollón, Baja California State Attorney General Ma. Elena Andrade Ramírez stated at the time that the victim had not appeared to testify or testify, but that an investigation had been opened for domestic violence.

An update was requested from the Baja California State Attorney General's Office (FGE) on Monday, but received no response.

Other controversies include the unjustified dismissal of one of his staffers in Congress, and claims that he knows drug traffickers and even human traffickers.

"They only give visas to honest people? Please! I know some of the worst people who have visas, who are involved in drug trafficking, who are involved in human trafficking, and they have visas. And they post photos on social media in the United States," he stated at the time, in an attempt to defend Marina del Pilar, whose visa was revoked by the US government this year, as he announced on May 10.

Despite the appointment, there were no public statements from female legislators, as occurred when he was expelled from the party.
