Junior Pan American Games, Day 10: The Leoncitos won gold, putting Argentina in the top five in the medal standings.
The Leoncitos took home gold, adding another medal to their national tally at the Junior Pan American Games in Asunción . The men's field hockey team defeated Canada 4-2 in the final, taking the top spot on the podium and placing the national delegation in the top five of the medal table.
The team coached by Juan Gilardi , Olympic champion with Los Leones in Rio de Janeiro 2016 (a feat that marked exactly nine years ago this Monday), didn't have any major scares in a game in which they set the pace and imposed their game from the start. It wasn't until the final quarter, when they eased off the pressure, that they gave the Americans a chance to score.
Mateo Torrigiani , Tomás Ruiz , Nicolás Rodríguez and Bruno Correa were the authors of the goals for the national team, the last three from short corners.
"We came here looking for this tournament. We started off small, game by game, we went from strength to strength. This is a new group, and the tournament helped us a lot to establish ourselves as a team and build confidence. And that's important considering the big goal of the year, which is the World Cup in India at the end of the year," Correa commented.

The Lionesses will go for gold in the women's tournament this Tuesday, also at 7:45 p.m., against the United States .
On the final day of competition, sailing also added to the medal tally. Chiara Ferretti won silver in the women's iQFoil class, the only one completed yesterday because she had only managed to complete one race in the previous days, which were complicated by a lack of wind.
The 18-year-old from Cordoba, who finished fourth at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago and 24th in windsurfing at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games , finished second after five races with eight points, just one more than Zara Rozeboon of Aruba, who won gold. American Danicka Sailer took bronze with nine.

Argentina is fifth in the medal table with 14 gold, 26 silver and 17 bronze medals, after surpassing Chile , which also has 14 first places, but fewer medals of the other metals (9 and 13 respectively).
First place remains in the hands of Brazil , which leads with 58-28-37, followed by Colombia (27-16-25), the United States (23-28-24) and Mexico (18-29-29).
