Lando Norris won the Mexican GP of Formula 1 and Franco Colapinto finished last.

Lando Norris took the checkered flag at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez to claim victory in the 2025 Mexican Grand Prix. From the start, the Briton set a solid pace, defended his lead against Charles Leclerc , and managed his advantage throughout the 71 laps. Franco Colapinto finished 16th.

In the opening laps, tension mounted at Turn 1 as the cars bunched together for a tight start where the low air density at over 2,000 meters above sea level complicated grip. The first shock came early: Liam Lawson was forced to retire on lap 4 due to technical problems with his RB. Shortly after, Fernando Alonso was also forced to retire from the race due to a mechanical failure in his Aston Martin.
The field's pace remained stable until Nico Hülkenberg retired on lap 28 after detecting a fault with his Sauber. Meanwhile, the leaders worked out tire and fuel consumption strategies, with Leclerc attempting to stay within the DRS window ahead of Norris.
The chapter of penalties began with Carlos Sainz , penalized with five seconds for exceeding the speed in the pits, which jeopardized his aspirations in the top 10. Shortly after, Lewis Hamilton received a ten-second penalty for a contact with Max Verstappen at Turn 4. The Briton was forced to stop in the pits, dropping several positions and losing contact with the leaders.

Meanwhile, Verstappen maintained his comeback pace. The Dutchman, who started fifth, gained positions with an aggressive strategy and capitalized on the mistakes of his teammates. Meanwhile, Oliver Bearman delivered one of the most solid performances of the day, remaining on the last step of the podium for much of the race. George Russell, for his part, had interesting exchanges on the radio, urging Kimi Antonelli to let him pass to challenge for the podium.
Between laps 47 and 49, the pit stops were massive. Bearman, Russell, Antonelli, and Piastri changed tires almost simultaneously, with McLaren working particularly quickly, allowing Piastri to emerge ahead of Antonelli. Hamilton also made his pit stop, but the accumulated penalty left him with no immediate room for recovery.
With strategies stabilized and traffic cleared, Norris extended his lead to over 20 seconds over Leclerc by lap 51. Behind him, Verstappen consolidated third place, followed by Bearman, Russell, and Piastri, until the Australian overtook the Mercedes.

The rest of the race saw absolute dominance from Norris , a constant Leclerc but without the pace to catch him, and a series of penalties and retirements that changed the pace of a race that is moving towards its decisive stretch.
It must be said that Norris's dominance contrasted with the stumbles of other frontrunners, and at the end of the race it was clear that his victory was the result of precise management of pressure and fatigue. He was joined on the podium by Leclerc and Verstappen, while other contenders saw their chances swallowed up by the Grand Prix's progress.

Franco Colapinto faced the race without any resources to fight for top positions, as he started from the back of the grid, but with a clear strategy: keep the car intact, rack up laps, and avoid mistakes.
Already in the first few metres of the race he suffered an additional difficulty: while braking towards the second corner, he was pressured by Lance Stroll , lost control of his Alpine and spun, which further delayed him.

Throughout the race, Colapinto maintained a quiet fight in the lower-midfield . On lap 35, he caught up with his teammate Pierre Gasly and even asked over the radio if he could overtake him, but was ordered by the team to hold his position and wait: “ No, mate, be patient. Wait in your place , Pierre will pit at the end of the lap,” Stuart Barlow told the Argentinian. Then, once the Frenchman pitted, he was told: “Pierre is in the pits now. Let’s get back to the management phase, we’re very happy.”
After this, the Pilar native made his first pit stop on lap 50 to change his hard tires for soft ones, but he was now without any real chance of making a point. Towards the end, the number 43 driver closed the gap on his teammate by several seconds, even finishing within a few tenths of a second, but the blue flags and a virtual safety car following Sainz's retirement—whose transmission never failed—destroyed the dreams of a young driver who didn't want to start last and did his best to finish in a decent position.
When will the next Formula 1 race be?The top category of motorsport will take a week off and will return with full energy on the weekend of November 7-9, in what will be the Brazilian Grand Prix , at the Interlagos Circuit, in South America .
