Mexico struggles but defeats Honduras to go for its tenth Gold Cup title.

The Mexican national team delivered, albeit with more anguish than brilliance. This Wednesday, the Tricolor defeated Honduras 1-0 at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California , thereby securing their place in the 2025 Gold Cup Final, where they will face their arch-rival, the United States, next Sunday at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.
In front of more than 70,000 spectators, the team coached by Javier Aguirre displayed a performance far from what was expected . Despite the result, Mexico failed to dominate or convince. They faced an awkward, physical, and deceitful opponent, who robbed them of the ball for long stretches of the match and forced them to defend in their own half.
The only goal of the match fell in the 49th minute, scored by Raúl Jiménez , who took advantage of a great assist from young Gilberto Mora . With this goal, Jiménez reached 41 goals for the National Team, approaching the 52 of Javier "Chicharito" Hernández, the Tri's all-time leading scorer.
Special mention goes to Gilberto Mora, the 16-year-old youth who sparked the Mexican attack. Despite the rough play and constant fouls, Mora stood firm, showed character and quality, and was the driving force behind the team when it needed it most.
Mexico scored a second goal in the 53rd minute through Edson Álvarez , but it was ruled out for offside in an interpretive decision by Costa Rican referee Juan Calderón.
The second half was even more difficult for Mexico, especially after changing their formation to a 4-4-2, which allowed Honduras to regain possession and create danger in Luis Malagón's penalty area.
The match was intense, with numerous interruptions, fouls, and clashes from the first minute. Mexico won, yes, but without convincing results . Now, the United States awaits in a Final that promises excitement, where Mexico will seek its tenth Gold Cup title, with the goal of improving its performance and not just surviving on the field.
