Professional League: Why there won't be a Clausura Tournament match on the first weekend of August

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) had decided to leave the weekend of August 3 and 4 free for the PASO (Primary, Open, Simultaneous and Mandatory) elections, which were scheduled for that Sunday. Therefore, the ball will stop rolling in the Professional League 's Clausura Tournament on the first weekend of next month.

However, in February, Congress suspended the primaries and scheduled direct legislative elections for October. Despite the change in the political landscape , the AFA opted not to change the initial schedule.

Following the third matchday of the tournament, the championship will enter a hiatus that, while originally motivated by electoral reasons, will ultimately be maintained due to an organizational issue related to the Argentine Cup .

Instead of rescheduling the fourth round of the Clausura for those days, it was decided to take advantage of the window to move forward with the round of 16 matches of the Copa Argentina .

Thus, while the Professional League takes a break, the action will move to the elimination matches of the national cup, in which several First Division teams will participate such as Racing , San Lorenzo , Lanús , Huracán , Independiente and Belgrano .

The Professional League teams will then have one more week to prepare for the final stretch of the championship, which will be crucial both in the fight for qualification to international cups and in the fight for survival. The fourth round of the Clausura has been rescheduled for the weekend of August 9-12.
