River Plate: Miguel Borja leaves Millonario and could leave for free at the end of the year due to poor performance.

The Colombian striker's contract with River Plate expires on December 31, and all indications are the club won't seek to renew it. He's only scored six goals this year.

Miguel Ángel Borja's future at River Plate appears to be coming to an end. The Colombian striker, whose contract expires on December 31, 2025, is not expected to renew, according to sources close to the Núñez club.

Gentleness
Management is reportedly unwilling to open negotiations for a future contract, so the attacker could be released and negotiate his return to any team as a free agent.
The decision is reportedly motivated by both contractual issues and the level of football of the "Colibrí" , who has played 16 matches in the Apertura Tournament so far this year and scored only 5 goals.
In the Apertura playoffs, Borja played in both of River's games but did not score.
In the Copa Libertadores, the forward played in four matches and scored a single goal.
His performance declined and he lost prominence in Marcelo Gallardo's scheme, moving to the bench for the team's final key matches.

Borja had been brought in as a key player in River Plate's attack, standing out for his physical strength, finishing ability, and international experience. He was even one of the squad's top scorers in 2023 and a regular fixture on the Colombian national team.
However, in 2025 his offensive contribution declined significantly, leading the coaching staff to prioritize other offensive variants.
The player's entourage hasn't ruled out the possibility of an early transfer, although for now, everything indicates that River will wait until his contract expires.
