The MX League has a merengue flavor

Keylor Navas will be the new goalkeeper for Los Pumas, as confirmed yesterday by the Argentine club Newell's Old Boys on their official accounts.
The Costa Rican is expected to sign with the Auriazul team as soon as possible, and they hope to have him available for this Friday's match against Querétaro in the third round of the 2025 Apertura Tournament.
"Club Atlético Newell's Old Boys informs its members and fans that Keylor Navas is no longer part of the professional football team and will continue his career with Pumas de México," reads the statement the club posted on its social media.
He emphasized that the decision was made to maintain the team's shared direction and goal. "We firmly believe that to achieve our sporting and personal goals, it is essential that each member pull together, always prioritizing the team over the individual," the document continues.
The Rosario-based club announced the official figures for the signing of 38-year-old Keylor Navas to the club. The deal was finalized for two million dollars ($1.9 million for the purchase and $100,000 in variables).
The Costa Rican arrived at Newell's as a free agent last January. He had a contract until December 2026.
Navas will join his eighth professional club after spells with Deportivo Saprissa, Albacete, Levante, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Nottingham Forest, and most recently Newell's Old Boys.
Madrid invasion
Navas will be the fourteenth player in the history of Mexican soccer to have played for Real Madrid.
He joins figures such as: Oscar Ruggeri, Ivan Zamorano, Emilio Butragueño, Miguel Gonzalez “Michel” Bernd Schuster and Santiago Solari, as well as Hugo Sanchez.
Currently, with Keylor there will be six ex-Real Madrid players in Liga MX.— EL UNIVERSAL
