A Colombian breakfast, among the 100 best in the world: which one is it?

Some people think breakfast is the best meal of the day. And no wonder, since this dish is usually eaten early in the morning, so it can serve as a great starting point for a new day.

Now, depending on the location, the type of food that accompanies this dish can vary. From a steaming soup in Vietnam to a freshly baked croissant in Paris or refried beans in Central America, this morning meal reflects part of a territory's culture.

With that premise in mind, the gastronomic guide Taste Atlas compiled a list ranking the 100 best breakfasts in the world based on user reviews. This list included 24,237 reviews , which were recognized by the system as legitimate.

This time, a Colombian dish made it into the top 20. It's called calentado , a traditional breakfast that consists of reheating leftovers from the night before.

This dish, which received a 4.5 out of 5 star rating and ranked 16th, typically includes rice, beans, plantains, meat, fried eggs, and arepas. Some people also like to add other ingredients, such as sausages or pork rinds.

The 'top' 5

At the top of the list was Kahvalti , a dish originating in Turkey and derived from two words: 'kahve' (coffee) and 'altı' (below/before). This dish received 4.8 stars and is best known for offering a wide variety of dishes, often combining a multitude of flavors, textures, and food categories.

In second place was Komplet lepinja with a 4.6-star rating. This is a traditional Serbian breakfast consisting of a traditional flatbread (lepinja) cut in half, covered with thick cream (kajmak), and topped with an egg.

Next up are the Sfinz (Libya), the Kaleh Pacheh (Iran), and the Croissant (France). All three received a 4.6-star rating.
