Jumbo expands recall: even more cheeses appear to contain plastic particles
ANP

People who like to buy their cheese at Jumbo would do well to check it. Earlier this week, the supermarket recalled several cheese slices of their own brand because they might contain plastic, but now it turns out that this concerns even more cheeses than initially thought.

On Wednesday, Jumbo announced that the plastic particle can be on the bottom slice of cheese 'in a single case'. Eating the cheese can be dangerous and that is why it is important that customers of the supermarket return the cheese to the store, after which they will get their money back. The warning on Wednesday initially only applied to these cheeses:

  • Jumbo young cheese 48+ – value pack slices 400 g, EAN code: 8718452695126, best before date (BBD): 24-09-2025 or 25-09-2025
  • Jumbo young matured cheese 30+ – value pack slices 300 g, EAN code: 8718452695225, best before date (BBD): 24-09-2025 or 25-09-2025
  • Jumbo young cheese 48+ – slices 190 g, EAN code: 8718452708963, best before date (BBD): 26-09-2025
  • Jumbo mature cheese 48+ – slices 190 g, EAN code: 8718452708987, best before date (BBD): 16-09-2025
  • Jumbo extra mature cheese 48+ – slices 190 g, EAN code: 8718452708994, best before date (BBD): 16-09-2025, 23-09-2025 or 26-09-2025

Now, two days later, it turns out that even more cheeses may contain plastic particles. For this reason, Jumbo has adjusted their recall and added even more cheeses to their previous warning. Customers who also have one of the cheeses below in their refrigerator would do well to return it to the supermarket.

  • Young Mature 400 grams with all best-before dates until September 9
  • Mature 48+ value pack, best before September 10
  • Mature 30+ slices value pack, shelf life until September 15
  • Young Matured of 190 grams with a maximum shelf life of September 15.

The supermarket has also made an important side note to their previous warning. For the previously recalled cheeses, it now applies that all products with a best-before date up to the dates mentioned can pose a risk.

Interestingly, ALDI conducted a similar recall this week. The supermarket called on customers not to eat specific cheeses, but to return them to the store. These cheeses could also possibly contain plastic particles. According to ALDI, it concerns a 'production error', in which these two cheeses are affected: young and young matured cheese from Uniekaas Holland BV, specifically packages of 400 grams with best-before dates 26-09-2025 and 30-09-2025.
