Trump Signs Bill Criminalizing Revenge Porn: 'Completely Illegal'

US President Donald Trump has signed a bill into law that makes posting revenge porn a federal crime. It would not matter whether the images are real or created by artificial intelligence. "Today we are making it completely illegal."
The so-called 'Take it Down Act' not only makes it illegal to share intimate images without mutual consent, but also requires online platforms to remove such images within 48 hours of notification.
“With the rise of AI images, countless women have been harassed with deepfakes and other explicit images distributed against their will,” Trump said during a signing ceremony in the White House Rose Garden. “And today, we’re making it completely illegal.”
In the Netherlands too, women are harassed with (fake) nude photos that are distributed of them. It happened to the Dutch Lisa. In the video below she tells her story:
"Anyone who intentionally distributes explicit images without the consent of the person concerned faces up to three years in prison," Trump said.
Protection of adultsPreviously, U.S. federal law prohibited the creation or sharing of realistic, AI-generated, explicit images of children. But laws protecting adult victims varied by state. A nationwide law did not exist before, CNN reports .
The bill passed Congress almost unanimously, with only two House members voting against it. More than 100 organizations, including nonprofits and major tech companies like Meta, TikTok and Google, also support the legislation.
Apple and Google are also trying to remove AI services that convert images of clothed people into nude photos from their app stores and search results.
Nude Photo Remover ToolThere are now also so-called tools to remove (fake) nude photos from the internet. In this video you can see how that works:
