A disastrous end to the season for Piast Żmigród. It decided their place in the table

Piast Żmigród ended the IV league season with an away match against Błyskawica Gać. The match was to decide the final position of the Żmigród team in the table and maintaining a place on the podium.
On Saturday, June 7, the MKS Piast Żmigród team faced the local Błyskawica in Gać. This was the last match of the Żmigród team in the 2024/2025 season of Koleje Dolnośląskie IV league. The stake of the duel was to maintain third place in the final table - in the event of a defeat, Piast could drop to fourth place.
Błyskawica has had a very solid spring round. Until recently, the team led by Marcin Krzykowski had only one defeat this year – against Barycz Sułów. Interestingly, similarly to Piast, the team from Gać also caught a slight breathlessness towards the end of the season, losing two of the last three matches – 1:2 against Lechia Dzierżoniów and 1:4 against Iskra Księginice. These results allowed Piast to maintain a three-point lead before the last round. In the autumn, in Żmigród, the meeting of these teams ended in a 2:2 draw.
Saturday's match was disastrous for the guests from the start. Piast was unable to create a real threat under the goal guarded by Patryk Janiczak. Wiktor Słowiński opened the scoring in the 5th minute, finishing the ball after a shot by Dawid Bogdanik. Shortly afterwards, Filip Koczorowski provoked a penalty kick, which Michał Hawryło converted into a goal. In the 22nd minute, Łukasz Orzechowski made an excellent free kick, and seven minutes later Dawid Bogdanik finished the ball after a shot by Hawryło - the score was already 4:0.
The end of the first half turned out to be dramatic for Piast. In a short space of time, the team lost two players - first Władysław Shvets saw a second yellow card, and a moment later the same fate befell Szymon Ostromecki. Despite playing with nine players, Żmigród players conceded goals less often. In the second half, the hosts added two more goals - first Bartłomiej Naściszewski increased the lead with a header, and in the 80th minute Michał Hawryło scored his second goal of the match.
