Gap in the NHF budget. How much is left to pay to hospitals?
After the end of the year, the National Health Fund balances overperformance and underperformance, i.e. how much more and how much less services were provided by hospitals than expected. In the case of unlimited services, e.g. treatment of patients with a heart attack or visits to specialist clinics, the Fund must settle all dues, including for services provided beyond expectations. In the case of limited services (e.g. planned procedures in hospitals), the National Health Fund pays for overperformance as much as it can afford. During the pandemic, when fewer patients reported to doctors, it paid for everything, but the "covid reserve" was quickly exhausted.
