Karpacz returns to the rail map! As many as 14 pairs of trains on weekends and KD Retro on the route!

Fourteen pairs of trains will run on the summer weekends on the route from Jelenia Góra to Karpacz and back. Today, the train timetable for the period from June 15 has been presented. This is not the end of the attractions on this route!
The last train to Karpacz arrived in 2000. Now, after 25 years, trains will return to the mountain resort in the Karkonosze Mountains. This will be another rail connection restored by the provincial government in Lower Silesia – thanks to it, trains will return to towns where 13,000 Lower Silesians live.
– This is a symbolic opening of a new chapter in the development of rail transport in our region. We are rebuilding subsequent lines, restoring the railway to places where it used to be an everyday occurrence, fighting against communication exclusion and proving that Lower Silesia is the infrastructural heart of Poland – emphasizes Paweł Gancarz , Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship .
Connections to Karpacz will be the next rail destination in the Karkonosze Mountains, to which Koleje Dolnośląskie trains will go. Direct connections connect Wrocław with Szklarska-Poręba, and at the Jelenia Góra station we will be able to change to trains to Świeradów-Zdrój and Karpacz. This opens up further possibilities for exploring the region. From the capital of Lower Silesia, the fastest connection will take us in just over 2 hours and 20 minutes.
- New rail connections have been restored in Lower Silesia for years - including two to the Karkonosze and Jizera Mountains, i.e. to Karpacz and Świeradów-Zdrój. Thanks to this, thousands of residents of the region can use the modern trains of the Lower Silesian Railways in their daily transport. Thanks to the restoration of the railway, travelers will also have the opportunity to reach attractive mountain tourist resorts - emphasizes Michał Rado , vice-marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship , responsible for, among other things, rail.
The revitalization of the line is the result of many years of efforts by the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Government, the Lower Silesian Road and Rail Service and the Lower Silesian Railways. This is a breakthrough moment for the region and its residents, as well as tourists, who will be able to discover the charms of Lower Silesia even more easily.
We know the details of connections to Karpacz
Initially, there was talk of a Jelenia Góra – Karpacz – Jelenia Góra connection of eight pairs per day. However, Koleje Dolnośląskie managed to plan… even 14 pairs on weekends.
– In addition, there will be retro trains, i.e. those running with a historic locomotive and carriages, operated on weekends by the Railway Enthusiasts Club. We will be able to travel on them on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and during vacations, using, for example, the Lower Silesia Weekend Ticket – says Damian Stawikowski, president of Koleje Dolnośląskie .
The fastest connections – KD Sprinter from Karpacz to Jelenia Góra will reach in… 18 minutes. Koleje Dolnośląskie will launch 12 pairs of connections during the week, and 14 on weekends. Four of the weekend courses will be operated by historic trains of the Railway Enthusiasts Club in agreement with KD, which means that the first retro connection will be created on this route. Currently, a similar solution operated on weekends by Koleje Wielkopolskie on the Wolsztyn – Poznań route attracts crowds of tourists from all over the world.
Preview of connections thanks to DSDiK
The plan to open the Jelenia Góra – Karpacz line, the revitalization of which was carried out by the Lower Silesian Road and Rail Service, is slowly taking shape.
- I can already invite everyone the day before the new timetable - on June 14, when we are planning special train services on this route, which will be carried out by railway enthusiasts on the train that was the last to reach Karpacz 25 years ago - says Mateusz Masłowski, director of the Lower Silesian Road and Rail Service .
The Lower Silesian Road and Rail Service is an entity that revitalizes railway lines in Lower Silesia that have been inactive for decades. In the coming years, DSDiK will revitalize railway lines to Kowary, Lwówek Śląski, Lądek-Zdrój and Stronie Śląski, among others. The Lower Silesian entity is the second largest manager of rail infrastructure in Poland.
The program of restoring rail connections in Lower Silesia has resulted in almost a quarter of a million Lower Silesians regaining access to rail for years. The fastest regional trains in Poland run through the province. Over 22 million passengers travel on KD boards annually.
