Seniors reported to hospitals. Dangerous parasites were detected in their bodies

These unusual medical cases were mentioned in a report published in the scientific journal The New England Journal of Medicine.
A 61-year-old and a 66-year-old had both undergone kidney transplants, both from the same donor. Both had an extremely rare infection, estimated to occur in 14 out of 10,000 cases.
Kidney transplant and dramatic side effects: Older men are infected with parasitesAs described by Live Science, the kidney donor was a man who used to live in the Caribbean. Two Americans, aged 61 and 66, agreed to undergo the transplant, without which they would not be able to continue functioning - one of them was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital, while the other underwent surgery at Albany Medical Center.
The 61-year-old was admitted to the intensive care unit 10 weeks after the transplant. This was due to alarming symptoms – he experienced shortness of breath, fever, abdominal pain – on which he had an extensive rash. He was thoroughly examined – larvae of the “worm” – Strongyloides stercoralis – were detected in his lungs, abdominal cavity and on his skin. He was cured – he received medication (ivermectin).
The same thing happened to a 66-year-old. He showed similar symptoms. However, both facilities, in close cooperation, led to his quick recovery.
Larvae infested older men's bodies. This is a rare side effect of transplantationAlthough such situations occur in only 0.14 percent of cases, urgent treatment must be implemented each time, especially in such weakened organisms as those of 61 and 66-year-olds after transplantation. In 42 percent, it is S. stercoralis that is responsible for parasitic infection in people after transplantation procedures.
