Tadeusz Duda was charged before the tragedy. The case did not concern the victims

On Friday, June 27, in Stara Wieś near Limanowa, Tadeusz Duda shot his 72-year-old mother-in-law. Then, the 57-year-old shot his 31-year-old son-in-law and 26-year-old daughter, and then fled. The day before the shooting, Tadeusz Duda was at the police station, where, in accordance with the law, he familiarized himself with the files of the case he was conducting. It concerns mental and physical abuse of his wife and making criminal threats against his parents-in-law - Fakt reports.

The 57-year-old read the statements and knew that the evidence against him was provided by his daughter. However, the 26-year-old and her husband were not wronged in this case. The head of the District Prosecutor's Office in Limanowa, Małgorzata Odziomek, emphasized that the 31-year-old did not testify against his father-in-law. Tadeusz Duda was subjected to non-custodial preventive measures in the form of police supervision and a ban on contact with the wronged parties.

The 57-year-old did not evade these measures and reported to the police station. "This was a case like many of ours, unfortunately. There was no indication that a tragedy could happen. The non-custodial measures used were effective. The man reported to the police. We did not receive any information that anything bad could have happened. If that had been the case, a motion for temporary arrest would have been filed," the prosecutor explained.

The limanowa.in portal noted that Tadeusz Duda was also charged with driving under the influence. The indictment against the 57-year-old was already being finalized and was only waiting for approval before being sent to court. Tadeusz Duda had no criminal record. In 2022, an investigation was initiated against the 57-year-old, which probably also concerned domestic violence. However, the proceedings were conditionally discontinued.
