The grand opening is tomorrow. An impressive expressway for drivers.

• One of the key sections of the S1 expressway in southern Poland will be opened on Monday, August 25.
• This is a section of the S1 route on the border of the Małopolska and Silesian Voivodeships, running from the Oświęcim junction to the Brzeszcze junction, together with a 600-meter section of the DK44.
• Until the construction of the adjacent sections of S1 is completed, the newly opened route will only be accessible to vehicles with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes.

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) has announced the official opening date of the S1 expressway from the Oświęcim junction in Bojszowy Jedlina to the Brzeszcze junction. The access to the junction runs along the newly constructed section of the Oświęcim bypass, which can be accessed at the roundabout in Pławy or the roundabout in Bojszowy Jedlina. It will also be possible to cross the new inter-voivodeship bridge over the Vistula River, but please note that this is only possible from the Oświęcim direction.

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) announced the imminent opening of the S1 expressway between the Oświęcim and Brzeszcze junctions on the border of the Małopolska and Silesian Voivodeships at the beginning of August this year .

This is a section of the S1 expressway from the Oświęcim junction to the Brzeszcze junction, along with a 600-meter section of the DK44, as well as another section of the Oświęcim bypass along the DK44.

In total, from the Oświęcim junction on the S1 to the roundabout on Wojewódzka Street in Pławy, we will complete 4.1 km of new road.

– explained the national road authority in a press release on August 5th. It is now known that the opening of this important section will take place on Monday, August 25th.

Road workers explain that until the construction of the adjacent sections of S1, i.e. Oświęcim - Bieruń and Dankowice - Bielsko-Biała Hałcnów and the last part of the Oświęcim bypass along the DK44, is completed, the newly opened route will be temporarily available only to vehicles with a permissible total weight of up to 3.5 tonnes .

Let us recall that on the almost 16-kilometer section of the S1 Oświęcim - Dankowice expressway , three road junctions have already been built: Oświęcim, Wola and Brzeszcze .

As part of the construction of the main roadway, 18 engineering structures were built (including five bridges, seven road viaducts, two railway viaducts, a viaduct, two combined underpasses for large and medium-sized animals and a pedestrian footbridge).

- On this section , the overpass on the road towards Bielsko-Biała, over 480 m long , deserves special attention, as it carries the expressway over, among others, the electrified, double-track railway line no. 93 Trzebinia - Zebrzydowice, a crossing for medium-sized animals, the Tesznowiec pond area and the Jawiszowice - Kaniów district road - GDDKiA reported.

When the entire S1 expressway is completed, drivers will experience a dramatic change. "It's the gateway to southern Europe," explains the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.
