UN speaks out after Iran attacks: 'Conflict could slip away'

Antonio Guterres said: "This is a dangerous escalation in a region already on the brink and a direct threat to international peace and security."

The Secretary also called on the states involved in the conflict to "de-escalate and abide by their obligations under the United Nations Charter and other rules of international law."
"In this dangerous hour, it is very important to avoid a spiral of chaos. There is no military solution. The only way forward is diplomacy. The only hope is peace," he concluded.
The Iranian side has recently requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council , the main topic of which is to be "maintaining international peace and condemning US attacks". This is Tehran's reaction to the US joining the conflict with Iran and bombing nuclear facilities located in that country.
US Strikes Iran, No Increase in Radiation ReportedThe International Atomic Energy Agency said on Sunday that there was no increase in radiation levels as a result of the US strike on Iranian nuclear facilities .

"Following the attacks on three nuclear facilities in Iran (including Fordow), the International Atomic Energy Agency can confirm that, to date, there has been no increase in radiation levels outside these facilities," the agency said in a statement posted on social media.
It was also added that further assessments of the situation will appear when more information on the matter becomes available.
