April and May are the months when provincial finals in various sports disciplines are held as part of the Children's Games, School Youth Games or High School Games. In many competitions, leading roles are played by students from schools in our region. Below we present their successes in a telegraphic summary.
First, the provincial finals in boys' basketball as part of the School Youth Games. This took place in the sports hall of Primary School No. 14 in Przemyśl, which hosted the four best basketball teams in the Podkarpacie region. As always, the finals were preceded by municipal, district, regional eliminations, provincial semi-finals and a play-off tournament. And it was this last chance to advance to the finals that the defending champions, players from SP 2 Łańcut, took advantage of. They not only advanced to the finals but also won it. In the semi-finals, they quite confidently defeated SP 14 Krosno from Krosno, just like the SP 14 Przemyśl team defeated their rivals from SP No. 3 Tarnobrzeg. In the finals, the young basketball players from Łańcut jumped ahead by a dozen or so points in the first quarter and then controlled the situation, not giving up the lead until the end. In this way, they finished the games with gold medals for the fourth time in a row. The SP 14 Przemyśl team became the vice-champion of Podkarpacie.
The basketball players also competed for the title of the Podkarpacie champions as part of the Licealiada. The competition took place in the sports hall of the I LO in Rzeszów. In the first match, the defending champions from the II LO Przemyśl won against the Rymanów LO. In the second semi-final, the basketball players from the V LO in Rzeszów won quite confidently against their eternal rivals from the SLO Stalowa Wola. In the most important match of the tournament, the Rzeszów players won against the team from the II LO Przemyśl, winning the title of the Podkarpacie champions, while the team from the Przemyśl "Morawa" became the vice-champion of the Podkarpacie province.
The championship title was defended by basketball players from II LO in Przemyśl. The provincial final of the Licealiada took place in the sports hall of MOSiR in Krosno. The team from Przemyśl was the favorite and fulfilled this role excellently. They confidently won two matches and finished the tournament with gold medals. In the strict final they defeated the team from IV LO Rzeszów. In the match for bronze, the players from I LO KEN Stalowa Wola defeated the team playing as the hosts, I LO Krosno.
HandballThe provincial final of the Children's Games in girls' handball took place in the sports hall of Primary School No. 2 in Jarosław. Three teams took part in the competition, the winners of the provincial semi-finals (SP Przecław, SP Wiśniowa and SP 1 Pruchnik) and the winners of the play-off tournament, i.e. SP Piarek Sisters Rzeszów. The tournament was held in a "round robin" system. In the very first match, the teams that, as it turned out at the end, took the first two places met - players from Pruchnik and Rzeszów. The match was very interesting, and the lead changed every few minutes. The defending champions - girls from Pruchnik - scored one more goal. In the following matches, these two teams won everything. This meant that for the second time in a row, the students from SP No. 1 Pruchnik became the champions of Podkarpacie.
The provincial finals of the Youth School Games in boys' handball were held in the sports hall of Primary School No. 14 in Przemyśl. Students from the Przemyśl "fourteen" were one of four teams fighting for gold. In addition to them, there were also: SP 2 Sędziszów Małopolski, SP 2 Strzyżów and SP Malinie. 152 goals were scored in six matches. The home team, led by Przemysław Korobczak, despite having only seventh-graders in its line-up, won all of its matches and once again defended the championship title.
SwimmingThe provincial final of the Youth School Games in swimming was held at the new MOSiR swimming pool in Mielec. 12 relay teams and 12 competitors in each of the four styles were given the right to compete for the podium in the Podkarpacie region. In the first part of the competition, 6x50 m freestyle relay races were held. Among the girls, the 7th place was taken by the team from the Horyniec-Zdrój Complex of Educational Institutions and Schools, 10th by Primary School No. 2 Lubaczów, and 11th by Primary School Sieniawa. Among the boys, the 5th place was taken by the relay team from the Horyniec-Zdrój Complex of Educational Institutions and Schools, and 9th by Primary School No. 2 Przeworsk.
In the individual competition, there were many excellent results, personal records and school records. Weronika Bartnik (SMS Jarosław) won 2nd place in the 50m butterfly. Maja Kida (SMS Jarosław) became the Podkarpacie champion in the 50m backstroke, and in the 50m breaststroke her colleague from SMS Jarosław Julia Majcher.
In turn, the Children's Games were held at the MOSiR swimming pool in Dębica. The competition also took place in relays and individually. In the first part of the competition, 6x25 m freestyle relay races were held. Among the girls, the team from Primary School No. 2 Lubaczów took 10th place. Among the boys, Primary School No. 1 Przeworsk took 7th place, while Primary School No. 2 Lubaczów took 9th. In the individual 50 m backstroke, the bronze medal was won by Emilia Mudry from Primary School No. 2 Lubaczów, while in the 50 m breaststroke, the disc of the same colour was won by Jakub Kusy from Primary School No. 1 Przeworsk.
