Members of the Kociewskie Poszukiwacze (Kociew Seekers) have found a bracelet dating back to the 8th-9th century BC in the ground in Kociewie. The artifact will be transferred to the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk, the spokesman for the Pomeranian Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments (PWKZ) announced on Wednesday.

Members of the Kociewski Poszukiwacze Association of Explorers wrote on social media that one of their members had found the artifact in the ground. "He encountered a powerful signal, dug a small hole, and was speechless (...). A large bronze bracelet appeared in the hole. After retrieving and securing it, the find weighed 267 grams," they wrote.

They added that the search lasted five weekends. "The next day (after unearthing the bracelet - PAP) we added two more fibulae and a piece of other jewelry to our findings," they reported.

Cezary Modrzejewski, head of the Kociewskie Poszukiwacze search, told PAP that the artifact was found 20 centimeters below the surface. He added that the bracelet is circular and slightly flattened. He emphasized that the object is well-preserved.

PWKZ spokesman Marcin Tymiński said that the finders had reported the find to the office. He added that it likely dates back to the Late Bronze Age (8th-9th century BC).

He added that the searchers were operating in the Kociewie forest. They had permission to conduct the search from the provincial conservator of monuments.

"Finds such as the bracelet should be turned over to the office, as they are property of the State Treasury. Detectives who intentionally search for historical artifacts can expect a diploma from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage if they are spectacularly successful. Cash rewards for searchers will be available from 2027, when the amendment to the Act on the Protection of Monuments comes into force," Tymiński added.

He assured that the artifact will be transferred to the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk. (PAP)
