Difficult times in construction and assembly production. Prices are only rising

According to preliminary data from the Central Statistical Office, construction and assembly production in Poland was 4.2% lower in April than in the same period of 2024 (when a 2% drop was recorded). However, compared to March of this year, it increased by 5.6%.

After eliminating the impact of seasonal factors, construction and assembly production in April was 2.9 percent lower than in April 2024 and 0.8 percent lower than in March of this year. Compared to the average monthly value in 2021, the decrease in this indicator in April amounted to 10.5 percent.

The largest "downturn" compared to April last year was recorded by the construction of buildings (a 10.3% drop, for the entire period from January to April the drop was 5.7%). The dynamics of construction and assembly production in the case of civil engineering facilities did not look much better (last month only 91.7% of production from April 2024 was achieved, for the entire period from January to April the drop was 2.9%).

A significant increase was recorded only in specialist construction works , where the result for April 2025 was 110.5% of that for April 2024 (for the entire period from January to April, the increase reached 9.1%).

Compared to March, the overall result of construction and assembly production was driven up by production related to the construction of civil engineering structures (an increase of as much as 20.3%) , while other categories recorded declines – cosmetic (by 0.1%) in the case of building construction and much larger (by 4.2%) in the case of specialist construction works.

How many investments and how many renovations? Prices are rising steadily, but with less dynamics

Taking into account the nature of construction works, in April 2025 construction and assembly production increased by 1.9% (on a yearly basis) in the case of investment works, while it decreased by 16% for renovation works (compared to the increase in investment works a year earlier by 5.3% and the decrease in renovation works by 13.7%). Compared to March, this indicator increased by 7.3% for investment works and by 1.9% for renovation works ).

In the entire period from January to April 2025, construction and assembly production increased by 3.2% year-on-year for investment works, and decreased by 7.8% for renovation works (a year ago, decreases of 3% and 18.4% were recorded, respectively).

As for the prices of construction and assembly production, in April they increased both compared to March of this year (by 0.2%) and April of 2024 (by 3.4%). Compared to April 2024, the prices of construction of civil and water engineering structures and construction of buildings increased the most (3.5% each), in the case of specialist construction works the increase was only slightly smaller (3.2%).

Comparing April prices with March, the largest increase can be seen among civil engineering (by 0.3%). For building construction it was 0.2%, for specialist construction works - 0.1%.
