A great opportunity for Świątek! She only has to meet one condition.

Iga Świątek is still in the hardcourt tournament in Cincinnati. Her biggest rivals, Coco Gauff and Aryna Sabalenka, have already bowed out. What does this mean for the Polish player?
The US tournament could be a special one for Iga Świątek. The Polish player, currently ranked third in the world, comfortably defeated Anna Kalinska 2-0 (6-3, 6-4) in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. She had previously eliminated Anastasia Potapova and Sorana Cirstea. Meanwhile, second-ranked WTA player Coco Gauff was eliminated from the US tournament after losing her quarterfinal match to Jasmine Paolini.

What does this mean for the Raszyn native? Currently, the Pole and the American are separated by 551 points in the WTA rankings. Thanks to Gauff's defeat, Świątek has a chance to take her place among the world's best tennis players. However, there's one condition that must be met: the Pole must win the final of the tournament in Cincinnati. If she does, she'll surpass the American by 59 points. However, if the Polish player fails, she'll remain in third place.
The Pole is in no danger of falling further behind. Fourth-ranked Jessica Pegula is over 2,000 points behind the podium. Aryna Sabalenka, meanwhile, holds the top spot. Although the Belarusian also bowed out in the quarterfinals after losing to Yelena Rybakina, she has a significant enough lead that no one can currently challenge her.
On Sunday, August 17, the Polish woman will face Rybakina. If Świątek wins this match, her opponent in the final will be the winner of the pairing Jasmine Paolini and Weronika Kudermietowa.
