An unexpected winner in France

Home rider Johann Zarco (Honda-LCR) won the French Grand Prix, round six of the MotoGP World Championship, at the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans. The overall leader is the Spaniard Marc Marquez (Ducati), who finished second on Sunday.

Despite the rainy weather, the fans gathered around the legendary track in Le Mans had great reason to celebrate. For the first time since 1954 and Pierre Monneret's victory in Reims, the French Grand Prix in the highest class was won by a representative of the hosts.

Zarco, who turns 35 in July, claimed only the second victory in his long MotoGP career – after the race in Australia in October 2023.

In second place, 19.9 seconds behind, was six-time world champion Marc Marquez (Ducati), with another Spaniard, Fermin Aldeguer (Ducati-Gresini), in third, 26.5 seconds behind the winner.

In the general classification after six races, the leader is Marc Marquez - 171, and the runner-up is his brother Alex (Ducati) - 149. Zarco is in sixth position - 72.

The Moto2 and Moto3 classes were dominated by the Spaniards. The first was won on Sunday by Manuel Gonzalez (Kalex) and he is currently leading the overall standings. In Moto3, the fastest was Jose Antonio Rueda (KTM), also the leader of the overall standings.
