Iga Świątek won Wimbledon in phenomenal style. After more than two weeks off, the Polish player returned to the court. The 24-year-old is competing in the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal , a crucial stage in preparation for the US Open.
Almost all the top female athletes competed in Canada. Only Aryna Sabalenka was missing from the starting list.
Montreal. Iga Świątek's match delayedOn Wednesday, July 30, the Polish player began her competition against qualifier Hanyu Guo . For Iga Świątek, it was the first head-to-head matchup against the Chinese player in her career.
The 24-year-old, however, had to be patient. Initially , the match was delayed due to a fierce rivalry on Centre Court between Naomi Osaka and Ludmila Samsonova . Tomasz Wiktorowski, who, according to unofficial reports, is expected to become her coach, watched the Japanese player's struggles. Ultimately, Naomi Osaka defeated the 13th-seeded Russian 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, advancing to the third round.
As Iga Świątek and Hanyu Guo were finally about to enter the game, heavy rain fell over Montreal.

Giving her opponent no chance, she broke her after an unforced error, making the first set 2-0 . After several great serves, the 24-year-old extended her lead to 4-0 .
Hanyu Guo, however, didn't give up and unexpectedly broke the Polish player. The game, however, was largely due to a series of errors from the Polish player. Moments later, Iga Świątek confidently won her service game (5-2) and the first set 6-3.
The second set began with several showpieces from the Chinese player, who currently ranks only in the third 100th place in the WTA rankings. However, Iga Świątek didn't let her opponent get going, breaking her early in the set. Just a few minutes later, she broke the set again (1-1) and then again, giving the Polish player a 2-1 lead.
Later in the match, Iga Świątek showed her best side to the fans. The Chinese player could only watch helplessly as the Wimbledon champion played her spectacular moves. The Pole flashed her serve and hit two aces, extending her lead to 5-1 and ultimately winning the match 6-3, 6-1.
In the third round, Iga Świątek's opponent will be the winner of the Anastazja Pavlyuchenkova – Eva Lys fight.
