Thanks to him, they are a sure candidate to win the league. He dreams of the Grand Prix
Despite his busy schedule, Iversen found a moment to talk to Przegląd Sportowy Onet.
Michał Piotrowicz (Przegląd Sportowy Onet): Hello, Niels. First of all, congratulations to the team for taking the victory from Opole. You scored 12 points in this match, contributing to the victory. You were very weak from the tape and had to fight for points on the track. How did you feel on this track and how do you evaluate this match?
Niels Kristian Iversen (Wybrzeże Gdańsk leader): Yes, I am satisfied. Of course, it could have been a bit better, but basically I am satisfied. The track was prepared very well, it was maybe slippery at times, but I felt good on it. Although I lost starts, I had good speed on the track, which allowed me to overtake my rivals. However, I have to work on starts - then everything will be easier.
At one point you were losing by six points. Did you not lose hope of winning? Were you sure you would win this match?
– We kept believing in victory. It's true that we were losing by six points, but there were still many races ahead of us and many points to be won. It wasn't easy, but I always believe in my team. We did everything we could to succeed, and I'm glad we did.
You are currently the best rider in the National Speedway League. Are you satisfied with your form? Did you expect such a level?
– It's still early in the season, but at this stage everything is looking really good and I feel great on the bike. I'm very happy with my performance, but I think I can do even better. I really want to keep this form until the end of the season. My team and I are working hard on it. There are still a few things to improve and we are focusing on those as well.
In Wybrzeże the squad is based on four Danish players. Does this make it easier to cooperate well and build team spirit?
– It doesn't really matter to me. Of course, it makes things easier, but the most important thing is the cooperation between all the players. There's a great atmosphere in the club, fantastic people work there and everything works as it should.

Benjamin Basso is 23 years old, Marcus Birkemose – 21. Do you feel like a mentor to these players?
– I don't feel like a mentor. We ride together in the club, we help each other. Of course, I have more experience than them, I can give advice or help in different situations, but we are one team. We fight together and together we try to get as many points as possible in each race. I focus on my own riding, but also on winning as a team.
Last season, still in the Metalkas 2. Ekstraliga, the Wybrzeże team started matches very poorly and you almost always had to catch up with your rivals. This season the situation is repeating itself – both in Gniezno and Opole the beginning belonged to the hosts. What, in your opinion, is the cause and where does the problem lie?
– Last season it was like that, but we had a completely different line-up. This year we are riding in a completely different line-up, so it is difficult to compare both seasons. In speedway it is often the case that it is difficult to adjust straight away in away matches. It usually takes two or three runs to find the right settings and gear ratios. After that time you feel more confident and can ride more effectively. We always try to start the matches as best as we can, but it is not easy, especially away.
Four clubs, hundreds of kilometers and a good shape of life – great shape also abroadYou've also been solid in the Premiership for King's Lynn. What are your ambitions for this season?
– Unfortunately, I didn't manage to qualify for the Grand Prix or SEC series qualifiers, but I try to perform as best as I can and I want this season to be better than the last. My goal is to improve my averages in all the leagues I compete in. I want to be as close to my best form as possible.
The Swedish league is starting. In the first round in Norrköping you will face the Piraterna team, where your colleague from the Coast - Tim Soerensen - plays. Are you ambitious and want to prove who is better?
– It doesn't matter to me. No matter who is at the tape, I always want to prove that I'm better. That's my approach to every race.
