The first consequences of Karol Nawrocki's election. "This ministry will soon be gone"
Loss of revenue from State Treasury companies, saving the existence of the PKOI with money from provinces managed by PiS representatives, inspections, CBA searches in the office and home , investigation into potential financial and economic embezzlement, a letter from the sports community calling on Radosław Piesiewicz to resign. These were the last months in the life of the PKOl president.
On Monday, Piesiewicz said with a smile that the tables had turned. Here are the details.
– It's beautiful again! Radek has come alive and has big plans. The Olympics and taking over competitive sports – one of the POC activists tells us after the board meeting. President Piesiewicz has been waiting for the day when the presidential elections will be decided for a long time, and Karol Nawrocki's victory is to be his great reinforcement. But let's start from the beginning.
A wide smile and shoes worth six thousand zlotys. "It was the same Radek"Piesiewicz welcomed about 20 people from the PKOl board in a champagne mood. A broad smile, a blue jacket and Louis Vuitton loafers worth PLN 6,000. "It was the same Radek as at the beginning of the mission at the PKOl, when with the help of Jacek Sasin he was attracting State Treasury companies to cooperate one by one. He once again believed in his power and is open about it," another board member, present at the meeting, tells us.
The meeting was opened in a conciliatory tone by one of Piesiewicz's trusted men, the head of Polsat Sport, Marian Kmita. "It's even okay, because he said it's time to cut off what was and move forward together. Without divisions," a board member tells us. "Then Radek joined in and said that he would like to thank everyone who stayed by his side the most, although he doesn't condemn those who signed the open letter, because they were used," we hear.
And then the specifics started.
Donald Tusk to liquidate the Ministry of Sport and Tourism? "There is no point in talking to Nitras"According to our informants – we spoke to three independent people – Piesiewicz announced at the board that he knows that Donald Tusk plans to... liquidate the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. He also stuck a few needles in his main opponent Sławomir Nitras, who was, after all, co-responsible for Rafał Trzaskowski's failed presidential campaign.
"There's no point in talking to Nitras, because this ministry will soon be gone" - the president of the Polish Olympic Committee is said to have said. Piesiewicz even has a plan on how to take advantage of this situation.
It is no secret that since April 2023, the beginning of his presence in the Polish Olympic Committee, the president had ambitions to "buy" sports associations and slowly take over responsibility for competitive sports. He wanted to do this with millions from state-owned companies, which he acquired with the help of his influential friends from Law and Justice. The plan fell apart when after the games in Paris, things became unpleasant around the PKOl and the companies withdrew their financing.
– On Monday, there was another reference to CONI, the Italian National Olympic Committee. Piesiewicz said openly: "I would like the Polish Olympic Committee to be like CONI" – we hear. In Italy, it is CONI that is responsible for financing competitive sports.
This is Radosław Piesiewicz's secret. The plan reaches 2027. Karol Nawrocki is the rescueHere it is worth looking into the secret of the good mood and the reawakening of the ambitions of the PKOl president. After all, the committee still has a hard time making ends meet financially, the prosecutor's office is investigating Piesiewicz's business interests, and soon the winter games in Milan and Cortina will take place. The change in behavior is of course explained by the result of the presidential election.
The victory of Rafał Trzaskowski, who as the mayor of Warsaw initiated the inspections in the PKOl, would also be a success for Nitras and would give Piesiewicz's opposition fuel to continue fighting him. The election of Karol Nawrocki changes the balance of power. - Piesiewicz has been a martyr of PiS for the past few months. Now he believes that a reward is waiting on the horizon. In 2027 - if the government survives at all - there are parliamentary elections and elections in the PKOl. If PiS and Confederation have a majority, Radek will be strong again. He will again tempt sports activists with bags of money and they will probably elect him again - a man from the PKOl tells us.

The topic of Piesiewicz's dismissal - so lively in recent months - is not there at the moment. Not a single word was said about it on Monday. Piesiewicz won this round decisively. Today, only a handful of activists are discussing it loudly with the president and his people, the rest are keeping quiet. - There is no chance of change - we hear.
The President of the Polish Olympic Committee has indicated his goal. He wants to lobby for the games to be held in Poland. Who will help him?The triumphant Piesiewicz now has big plans, which he announced to the board. Taking over competitive sports is one thing, the mission of "games in Poland" - another. As we have learned, a working group to lobby on this matter is to be established in the coming days. However, there are delicate disputes about its composition.
The PKOl Board cannot imagine that Maja Włoszczowska – our voice in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) – would not be there. Radosław Piesiewicz cannot imagine it either, but at the same time he would like to be in this group, together with his most loyal people: Marian Kmita, Marek Pałus and Mieczysław Nowicki. And not everyone likes this composition.

In the coming days, a second, seven-person group will also be formed to work on the PKOl statute, which requires many changes. Piesiewicz wanted to reform it at the beginning of his term, but the bone of contention at that time was the extension of the president's term to eight years. The composition of this group is to be selected in a vote, already on June 13, when the board will meet just before the long-awaited General Reporting Assembly. Just a few days ago, many of Piesiewicz's opponents were counting on a breakthrough in the PKOl management to happen there. Today, no one is even talking about it.
- The opposition lost and we have to say it clearly. It's all over by 2027 - one of the members of the PKOl board tells us.
