The former Polish international makes a resounding return! The Ekstraklasa has gained a star.

This is one of the most interesting, if not the most interesting, moves of the summer transfer window in Poland. Mateusz Klich returns to PKO BP Ekstraklasa after fourteen years of playing in various foreign leagues, including the top European leagues. It's worth noting that the midfielder played in the Premier League. In England, Klich played for Leeds United, becoming one of the favorites of renowned manager Marcelo Bielsa. The Pole also has appearances in Germany and the Netherlands.
Last season (2024/25), the midfielder played for Atlanta United FC. The Pole, however, stayed in the United States for a while, as he also played for DC United. However, in the summer of 2025, he became a free agent, and there was increasing talk behind the scenes that it might be time for Klich to return to his hometown.
This is what actually happened, as the player returned to the club he left in 2011 to pursue a career abroad. Cracovia announced Klich's signing on Wednesday (August 13th). Interestingly, the Krakow team announced the transfer news on social media in an unusual way, enlisting the help of… well-known internet personality Paris Platynov.
Klich was a former Polish international. He played a total of 41 official matches for the senior national team between 2011 and 2022, scoring two goals. Klich was a member of the Polish national team at Euro 2020, which was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Interestingly, Cracovia also has another highly experienced former international: Kamil Glik, who has been with the Kraków club since the summer of 2023. It seems the Kraków club is sending a clear signal to its competitors as they strive for the top spots in the current PKO BP Ekstraklasa season.
