What happened there?! A cosmic seven minutes in the Polish Cup! This will go down in history.
Fans watching Tuesday's Polish Cup preliminary round matches were treated to a flurry of goals. The most impressive performance came from Polonia Bytom. The Betclic 1st League newcomer thrashed third-division Zagłębie Lubin reserves at home, and Łukasz Tomczyk's men dealt their lower-ranked opponents a devastating blow after the break.
In the first half, the Bytom team scored three goals, and the Miedź team had to cope with a man down after Mateusz Bondarenko received a red card. After the break, Polonia struck four more blows, and the fans gathered at the intimate stadium at 8 Piłkarska Street saw five goals in seven minutes!
Kamil Wojtyra first scored to make it 4-0, and Dominik Gregorski immediately responded, but that was only a temporary awakening for the third-division side. Moments later, Oliwier Kwiatkowski scored his second, and then Konrad Andrzejczak netted twice in the space of two minutes. Ultimately, Polonia saw off their opponents with a haul of seven goals conceded.
Red card in the second minuteThere was no shortage of excitement elsewhere. Hutnik Kraków secured a convincing victory, thrashing Zagłębie Sosnowiec 3-0 at Suche Stawy. Things were also exciting in Bielsko-Biała, where Marcin Biernat secured a 2-1 victory for Podbeskidzie against Resovia in the 90th minute. Stal Stalowa Wola also secured a place in the next round, defeating Skra Częstochowa 3-1. The visitors were shorthanded from the second minute onwards after Nikodem Kossakowski received a red card.
