Wisła Kraków is once again at the edge of the abyss. And this is just the beginning
The two-game win over Spartak Trnava (5:4) or the great chase for Cercle Brugge (5:7) is undoubtedly a great story for fans and something to be ashamed of. However, with Reymont, everyone has been interested in something else for a long time.
Fans of symmetry were delighted. Fans of Wisła? Not necessarilyLet's agree - the place of such a big club as Wisła Kraków is in the football elite. And Biała Gwiazda has not been seen in this elite since the 2021/22 season. First, the lost play-offs with Puszcza Niepołomice (1:4), a year later the Polish Cup, but also... tenth place, and now again "only play-offs". And yet even that was not certain.
At the beginning of the season, Wisła felt the curse that affects other Polish teams. The combined European cup qualifiers and the league threshing ended with them gaining 10 points in 10 rounds, having a goal difference of 12:12 and 12th place. A paradise for symmetry lovers, but again - that's not the point.
The losses to the top were finally made up for, Wisła reached the play-off zone, and here everything looked as if a red carpet had been rolled out in front of them. One only had to look at the packed stands. However, problems quickly began to pile up.
Wisła Kraków lost its leaders. Not only theirKacper Duda's wonderful shot? Crossbar.
Michael Kostka's wonderful shot? Over the line.
Wisła dominated, created chances, but was the first to concede a goal. And then also Angel Baena Perez, Marko Poletanovic and Rafał Mikulec, who suffered a terrible fracture. Time passed, and the hosts' situation was terrible. After all, the issue of promotion is not only prestige, but also money, which is so necessary in this club's situation.
After scoring a goal, Miedź wisely threw their opponents out of rhythm, Mikulec's injury also affected Wisła players, and they needed a longer moment to get back into the game. And even then it didn't look good - individual bursts, a lot of simple mistakes, and above all, a lack of a bigger idea.
And that wasn't the case until the end of the match. Tamas Kiss was a perfect example of that - he entered the pitch right after the break, kept losing the ball and deserved the legendary "fishing rod". And what did Wisła deserve? A few flashes and good shots from a distance are not enough to fight for the Ekstraklasa.
Everything could have been changed at the very end of the 17 minutes of added time, of course, by Angel Rodado. He touched the ball after a great cross from the left, surprised everyone, but only hit the post. And in Krakow they may start to wonder if this will not cost him. Who knows, whether the Spaniard will still want to play only in the backroom of the elite. And on top of that there are also financial issues. Where is Wisła going? Jarosław Królewski must ask himself this question again. His club has once again put the stick in its own spokes.
