It was Beatlemania, now it's Oasis fever. This Gallagher Brothers portrait could be worth a fortune

Oasis will soon embark on a long-awaited tour, which will certainly be one of the most important musical events of the year. Sotheby's auction house reminds us of a work by Elizabeth Peyton from 1996, which shows the duo in a completely new light.

Last year, the unexpected happened. The Gallagher brothers put their old differences aside, high-fived each other, and announced the return of Britpop legends Oasis .

The long-awaited Live '25 tour will kick off next month, so you can feel the excitement of the fans in the air. It's like the 60s and Beatlemania is still going on, only times and the beloved band have changed. Sotheby's auction house wants to take advantage of this and announces the auction of a unique portrait of the Gallagher brothers by Elizabeth Peyton . However, it must be admitted that... it will probably be cheaper to buy the entire discography of the band.

Gallagher brothers portrait to go under the hammer

The 1996 painting Liam + Noel will go under the hammer on June 24. Since the musical siblings announced their return, they have once again attracted huge interest in the art world.

The work was created after Oasis ' historic Knebworth Park concerts, which have been hailed as the greatest live event in British history. The artist based the portrait on a photograph of the brothers taken by Stefan De Batselier the previous year.

We see Liam and Noel in tracksuits, hugging each other tightly, but beneath their identical mod haircuts, thick eyebrows and rosy cheeks lies a subtle tension that characterises their professional-personal relationship.

"They're embracing, but there's a certain tension there. Now, knowing their history, it seems almost prophetic," Sotheby's specialist Antonia Gardner told The Guardian .

Oasis portrait for £2 million?

Elizabeth Peyton herself has earned a reputation as one of the most important American portraitists of her generation . It is often noted that she is able to capture famous figures in a different, more human light.

The painting is now estimated to be worth as much as two million pounds , although… given the excitement surrounding Oasis ' return, it's possible that this figure will be exceeded.

All those who do not have this amount in their account can view the painting before the auction at Sotheby’s in London, from 18 to 24 June.
