Central Bank Workers Union celebrates 90 years today

The SBC – Union of Bank Employees of the Center turns 90 today.
The SBC was founded on February 25, 1945, when its statutes were approved and its charter was signed, at the time, under the name of National Union of Bank Employees of the District of Coimbra (SNEBDC). It later became SBC – Union of Bank Employees of the Center.
Currently, although maintaining the acronym SBC, it is called the National Union of Banking, Insurance and Technology Workers.
Despite being a national union, it has a strong presence in the districts of Coimbra, Leiria, Viseu and Guarda. It has around five thousand members and is considered “the union closest to bank employees” and “a solid and sustainable union institution that manages an annual budget of over 13 million euros”.
The president of the SBC board, Helena Carvalheiro, and the president of the General Council and the General Assembly Board, Carlos Silva, state that the organization's purpose is to “promote quality and proximity unionism, providing medical and social assistance to its members and their families, through SAMS”.
