Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins donates 471 more books to the Municipal Library of Loulé

Former minister Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins has once again donated books to the Loulé Municipal Library , this time with 471 more copies, bringing the total number of documents that make up the documentary collection bearing his name to 5,141. This is the third donation made by Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins to the library.

Created in 2016, this Fund emerged after the donation of around 4000 books and magazines to Loulé City Council, mainly in the area of pedagogy.
In this context, Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins has played a very important role in supporting culture and promoting books and reading in the municipality, establishing himself as one of the library's biggest donors.
With family roots in Boliqueime , his mother's hometown, former Minister Guilherme D'Oliveira Martins maintains strong ties to the municipality of Loulé, being a regular presence at various cultural initiatives promoted in the region.
Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins is an essayist, university professor and executive director of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He was president of the National Culture Centre (2002–2016), coordinated the European Year of Cultural Heritage in Portugal (2018) and chaired the drafting of the Faro Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage in Contemporary Society in the Council of Europe (2005). He was an independent member of the Assembly of the Republic for seven legislatures, Secretary of State for Educational Administration (1995–1999), Minister of Education (1999–2000), Minister of the Presidency and Finance (2000–2001) and President of the Court of Auditors (2006–2015). In 2013, the Loulé City Council awarded him the Municipal Medal of Merit – Gold Degree.
