Memphis Depay suffers sprain and will be out of Corinthians' South American Cup

Striker Memphis Depay will be out of Corinthians' match this Thursday against Racing-URU, at 7pm (Brasília time), in Montevideo, for the fifth round of the group stage of the Copa Sudamericana. He suffered a sprained ankle during training last Monday (12), at CT do Timão.
The club's doctors evaluated Depay and ruled out his participation in the game. Therefore, he will begin treatment and focus on recovering for the derby against Santos, on Sunday, in the Brasileirão, in Itaquera. The black and white delegation leaves for Uruguay this Wednesday without its number 10 for a decisive match, which is worth qualifying, since the team has six points and is in third place.
The Dutchman was also involved in a recent controversy. In the match against Mirassol, he missed a penalty when he attempted a lob, which caused outrage among his opponents. Now, he will be out of the team due to the injury, forcing coach Dorival to change the attack.
Corinthians is in third place in Group C, with five points. Its opponent, Racing-URU, has accumulated four defeats and has yet to score, while América de Cali has six points and Huracán leads with ten. Only the first-placed team advances directly to the next phase, while the second-placed team will compete for a spot with teams eliminated from the Libertadores, in a draw yet to be held.
