Professor Armando Carvalho retired after 46 years at HUC

“I would like to express my deep gratitude for everything that has been given to me and that I have tried to repay with hard work and total dedication, which I believe I have achieved. I would also like to affirm my belonging to this Hospital and my total availability to continue to be one of its members and, within my possibilities, to be able to contribute to its prestige and success. Finally, I would like to wish the greatest personal and professional happiness to those who continue to work there and to the institution the greatest success, so that it may be the best Hospital and the best ULS in Portugal and so that it may be among the best internationally”. These are the words of Armando Carvalho who, 46 years after joining the Coimbra University Hospitals, announced his retirement today.
According to the ULS of Coimbra, Armando Carvalho was an Internal Medicine assistant (1987-1994), having in addition to his clinical activity, been an advisor to the Director of Medical Internship (1996-2002). After a new competition, as a graduate assistant (1994-2004) and later, after another competition, as a senior graduate assistant (since 2004), he was team leader of the Emergency Service (1994-2014), member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (2007), assistant to the Clinical Directorate (2003-2007), coordinator of the Functional Liver Disease Unit (2004-2013), Director of Medical Internship (2002-2015) and Director of the Internal Medicine Services A - HUC (2013-2018) and Internal Medicine - CHUC (2018-2021).
He was a Full Professor of Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra
