Sculpture “Songs of Coimbra” vandalized

The sculpture “Cantares de Coimbra”, by artist Dora Tracana, which is installed on Rua Ferreira Borges, in the heart of downtown Coimbra, was vandalized.

Contacted by DIÁRIO AS BEIRAS, the City Council “condemns and regrets the act of vandalism to which the sculpture “Cantares de Coimbra”, by artist Dora Tracana, was subjected, and will file a complaint against unknown individuals with the PSP”.

“The local authority, through the Culture Division, is still taking the necessary measures to restore the situation, and is currently working with the artist to minimize the damage caused by this act of vandalism, which shows a lack of respect for the city's cultural heritage. A possible restoration or other solution for the guitar strings (which were vandalized) is being evaluated together with the artist, and it is not yet possible to determine the cost,” adds the municipality.
