Heir to an important legacy bequeathed by Isabella of Aragon (1270-1336) to Coimbra, the Machado de Castro National Museum (MNMC) is joining the celebrations of the 400th anniversary of the canonization of the mythical queen (1625) with the exhibition “Isabel, Queen and Saint of Portugal”, on display from tomorrow until October 26th.

The exhibition "Double Shadow," which can be seen starting at 6:00 p.m. today at the Coimbra Contemporary Art Center (CACC), features works from the State Contemporary Art Collection (CACE). Curated by Ana Guimarães and Beatriz Hilário, both from CACE, the exhibition reflects on the contrasts between the intimate and the social, the public and the private, through works by some of the most important contemporary artists.

Mondego Vibe with more than 30 inflatables

Mondego Vibe returns to Parque Verde do Mondego between today and July 27th, with a packed schedule of water activities, inflatables, and outdoor experiences for all ages. Featuring over 30 inflatables, including over 15 water structures, the second edition of the event boasts an even more dynamic and engaging format. Among the main attractions are the popular Waterballs, Bumperballs, Boats, Mechanical Sweepers, Gladiators, and large inflatable tracks.

Open Conversations with Rui Lobo

University architecture: from its origins to the modern age is the topic of the lecture to be delivered by Rui Lobo, professor in the Department of Architecture of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC). This talk will explore the earliest university building typologies—firstly, colleges, primarily residential, and only later, schools or study centers. It will also address the European scale and the specific case of the Iberian Peninsula and the Portuguese university in particular, with a timeframe extending to the mid-16th century. Admission is free and open to all who wish to participate.
Matinee with Colorau Sound System

Today there's a new matinee with Colorau Som Sistema. Rui Veiga, known for his Colorau Sim Sistema project, presents a selection of unusual tracks with varied rhythms and influences from various sources. The performance focuses on a mix of styles with a focus on groove for the dance floor. Tickets are available at the Casa box office or at Blueticket.
Tickets cost 2 euros.

“Cassia” by Plautus

Plautus' play "Cásina" is presented by the Noite Bohemia Theater Company today, starting at 6:30 PM, at the Machado de Castro Museum. It is presented as a "funny comedy about forbidden love, family rivalries, and hilarious disguises. An elderly gentleman and his son fight over the same young slave girl, but nothing goes as planned. A play full of irony, social critique, and timeless humor." At the end of the performance, at 7:30 PM, there will be a conversation "Young People and Classical Theater" between actors, students, and the audience. Admission is free, but capacity is limited.
Eric Bonillo Plays Santana in The Mermaid's Garden

Today, the Jardim da Sereia (Mermaid Garden) becomes the stage for an unforgettable musical journey. Eric Bonillo pays tribute to Carlos Santana in a vibrant and engaging performance, packed with classics that have marked generations. The concert is part of the City and Queen Saint Isabel Festivals 2025 and is free of charge. The performance is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.
