Territory, space and time

Territory, space and time

In a time saturated with screens, rush and noise, there is a nearby territory that resists: made of clean rivers, slow steps and simple flavors. It is right next door, but it seems increasingly distant. Rediscovering it is more than a rest – it is a reunion with real life.

As the big days arrive, and as some people enjoy their holidays, the opportunity arises to break routines and get closer to what we seem to have forgotten: a simpler and more straightforward daily life.

Far beyond the journey to an exotic place that requires ever greater distance and intensity, it only takes a few kilometres to find a river with clean, singing water. There is a natural reality, close to where we live, that is distant from our daily lives and that is vital to recover.

In these infinite and diverse places, life offers us a rhythm that is alien to our time, where the most basic of cycles, day and night, takes us back to the small movements of Nature, which, strangely, despite everything surrounds us, and to which we also belong. It is an invitation to slow down, to reduce the intensity of technology and, perhaps, to take a look at a long-lost harmony. In fact, far beyond castles, palaces and museums, which our European neighbours generally have better than us, our greatest heritage is natural. This is why so many foreigners, and others, choose to live in these territories.

It turns out that a significant part of this heritage is within our reach, and good living, this ancient art, is simple, does not require much and reveals itself in the small rhythms of Nature. Even our small towns, where the countryside is close by, still feel this concept of good living, so essential and valued by ancient peoples. Here, in this space, life in its most natural state offers us everything we really need. In addition, there is the harmony between space and time, which has long been suspended from our daily lives.

If we just look at water, especially since the hydrological year was generous and everything else revolves around it, we will see that everywhere there are rivers (more or less natural) and accessible bodies of water. It is almost unbelievable, but we have hundreds of river beaches, many of them incredible, with everything you could want, even parking, if necessary.

This is the true “technology-free” territory, which invites us to an undeniable time of forgetting about screens and online life. Here, we are in sync with our deepest nature and this is both pleasurable and therapeutic.

The human body demands, is prepared for and needs movement. Try walking, the easiest and most natural exercise of all. Walking slowly, without a destination, step by step, leads us to discover unimaginable landscapes and details. There is no better way to get to know a place, even a city, than on foot. Often, the best things can only be reached, or experienced, on foot.

But there is much more. Tasting a watermelon or a melon that has been kept fresh in the running water of a river is something that cannot be written down. It is an ancient gesture of connection between body, food and environment. The experience is unrepeatable outside of its context; it cannot be packaged or industrialized.

Walking involves human scale, attention to detail, and openness to the unexpected. The body tunes into the space and gains the necessary time: it smells the earth, listens to the silence or the birds, observes the rhythm of the seasons. None of this can be transported or explained, it is simply lived. How much is an experience like this worth?

The most extraordinary thing is that experiences like these depend solely on us. Nature essentially requires only three simple and fundamental attitudes from us: to be responsible for our actions, to respect others and to care for Nature.

Make the most of the best and most accessible things you have at hand: land, space and time. You don't need more. Living and well-lived Nature is the best guarantee of the much-vaunted regeneration and enhancement of ecosystems.

Why wait? Your choice makes a difference.
