There are 3.4 million workers with salaries between 800 and 1,000 euros

More than half of workers, around 3.4 million people, last year had a monthly base salary (without subsidies) of between 800 and 1,000 euros, according to declarations submitted to Social Security. And according to today's edition of the newspaper Correio da Manhã, only 86 thousand workers received a salary above four thousand euros.

Of the universe of around 5.9 million links registered with Social Security, adds Correio da Manhã, around 94% concern employees and the remaining 6% are members of statutory bodies, that is, administrators and managers without an employment contract.

Despite the nominal increase of 5.9%, the total gross average salary grew, in real terms, to 3.2% in the last quarter of last year, compared to the same period of the previous year, reveal data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
