GranCabrio Folgore is luxury, power and technology

Maserati has brought its new GranCabrio Folgore to Portugal, the most powerful convertible on the market , with over seven hundred horsepower, which can now be ordered and the first units will begin delivery in 2025. Designed as the open, soft-top version of the GranTurismo coupé, the new GranCabrio Folgore combines luxury with power, refinement and high performance , proving to be faster (and cheaper) than its “siblings” with powerful combustion engines.

The GranCabrio is now available, powered by a 3.0 V6 supercharged petrol engine, in the standard version, with 490 hp, and Trofeo, the sportiest, with 550 hp, which claim a top speed of 302 and 316 km/h, respectively, as well as a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.9 and 3.6 seconds. The first is offered for 203 thousand euros in Portugal, while the Trofeo requires an investment of 245 thousand euros. But the new GranCabrio, as was already the case with the GranTurismo coupé, will start offering the electric Folgore version this year , with three engines with 408 hp each, which means it has over 1200 hp of installed power, although in this model it is limited to a maximum of 761 hp . This explains why it easily reaches 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed limited to 290 km/h.

For these electric GranTurismo and GranCabrio, Maserati has drawn on the experience it has gained during its participation in Formula E , the F1 series for electric formulas, which began in 2022 and where it is still represented today by Maserati MSG Racing. This presence in the competition has allowed the Italian manufacturer to master the technology of 800V electrical systems , which allows the battery to be recharged at a higher power and, therefore, in less time, without overheating. The GranCabrio Folgore has a battery with a capacity of 92.5 kWh gross (83 kWh useful) and is capable of recharging at a power of 270 kW (22 kW in AC), which allows it to recharge energy for an additional 100 km in just 5 minutes, or charge the battery from 20% to 80% in just 18 minutes.

Built with 65% of its parts in aluminium , the GranCabrio Folgore has a claimed weight of 2415 kg, 100 kg more than the coupé version, the GranTurismo Folgore. But the GranCabrio is not all about thrilling performance, as the luxury and refinement on board will please the most demanding customers, both in terms of materials and the care taken with the finishes. The boot is small (maximum 151 litres), especially when the canvas roof (which opens or closes in 14 seconds up to 50 km/h) is retracted, but this does not detract too much from the versatility of the electric convertible and its cabin with space for four.

The interior of the GranCabrio is well-kept and pleasant, offering the services of the "virtual butler" Alexa, a Wi-Fi hotspot and sound from Sonus Faber.

To make the GranCabrio Folgore more efficient, Maserati has spared no effort , installing silicon carbide (SiC) inverters, which are among the best in energy conversion systems, and a device that cleans the brake discs to prepare them for heavy braking after kilometres of slowing down using only energy regeneration (braking exclusively with the electric motor, producing electricity with a power that can reach 294 kW, or 400 hp, in this Italian model). The fact that it installs two electric motors on the rear axle, each connected to its own wheel, gives the GranCabrio Folgore access to a torque vectoring system that stabilises behaviour, to make it more efficient and exuberant in the next instant, depending on the driving programme selected (and there are four: Max Range, GT, Sport and Corsa).

The new Maserati GranCabrio Folgore can now be ordered , with the first units arriving soon. The price for this model with 761 hp and 0-100 in 2.8 seconds is €214,651 , a high price for some and a bargain for others, since the closest version of this convertible, but with a 3.0 V6 turbo petrol engine, is the Trofeo (550 hp and 0-100 in 3.6 seconds) proposed for €245,076.
