Guns N' Roses concert with 95% of tickets sold in Coimbra

The concert by the American band Guns N' Roses, which will take place on June 6th at the Cidade de Coimbra stadium, has sold around 95% of its capacity of 48 thousand people, said today the producer Everything is New.
“We have 95% of sales, we hope to reach maximum capacity in the next few days”, said production director Pedro Viegas, at the press conference to present the show, held today.
Data released today indicates that around 20% of spectators from Coimbra come from the surrounding region, the highest percentage for a single location, although 80% of Guns N' Roses fans travel from other parts of the country.
Tickets for the sixth concert in Portugal by the band led by Axl Rose are on sale for between 90 and 155 euros, amounts that, according to Pedro Viegas, are set taking into account the overall costs of the event and, first of all, the 'chachet' requested by the artists.
Asked by Lusa news agency about the increase in ticket prices, compared, for example, to the last two Guns N' Roses concerts in Portugal, also produced by Everything is New - in 2017 and 2022, on the Algés seafront promenade, a stalls ticket cost 69 euros and this year, in Coimbra, entry to the pitch costs 95 euros, an increase of 37% - Pedro Viegas noted that all costs have increased in the last three years.
“Everything has increased and, therefore, the ticket price has to increase accordingly and this assessment is always made”, added the production director.
He explained, in this regard, that there are values that are implicit in the increase in ticket prices, not only related to production costs (around a thousand people will work in Coimbra) and, especially the artists' fee: “And when we say the artist's fee, this involves a series of things, the Guns N' Roses team is 220 people, who will arrive next week, they will have to stay in hotels, there are more than 30 trucks arriving, buses, vans to transport them, all of this is included in the cost of the fee”, he stressed.
Pedro Viegas also said that the cost increases have not only affected musical shows in recent years, but also other events, such as football, hotel accommodation or meals.
Regarding the choice of Coimbra for Guns N' Roses' performance in Portugal this year, Pedro Viegas noted that “it is always easier” to choose the city in the center of the country after four Coldplay concerts were held here in May 2023.
But, although the choice was made by the promoter Everything is New, “there must be authorization from any artist, in the end the decision is not ours”, he stressed.
The Mayor, José Manuel Silva, said, in turn, that the organization of large events is competitive at all levels and that Coimbra “has to be competitive to assert itself and bring large concerts”.
