INML requests regularization of autopsy technicians

The president of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences (INMLCF) called this Friday for the opening of an external competition for forensic medicine technicians, with a view to entering the framework of autopsy technicians providing services.
During the formal session of the 23rd National Congress of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, taking place in Aveiro, the president of the INMLCF, Francisco Corte Real, took advantage of the presence of the Minister of Justice to ask her to open an external competition to regularize the situation of autopsy technicians providing services, adding that this problem has been dragging on for many years.
The official highlighted the response that the autopsy technicians providing services gave to the Elevador da Glória tragedy in Lisbon, "offering themselves and working throughout the night, without even being authorized to do what they have been demanding for many years, to be included on the Institute's map."
"In response to our request for availability, they did not refuse, did not complain, and gave their full commitment to ensuring that the Institute, the Ministry of Justice, and the Portuguese State fulfilled their obligations to Portuguese citizens and the various countries involved in the best possible way," he emphasized.
Without responding to the president of the INMLCF, the Minister of Justice, Rita Alarcão Júdice, expressed her “enormous gratitude” to the president of the Institute and to all those who were present at the Elevador da Glória tragedy.
"They were truly heroes at that moment, and I also express my gratitude for the way they acted in that moment of great anguish, suffering, and despair for all those who lost their loved ones," he said.
The minister also stated that the Ministry of Justice is committed to investing in the National Institute of Legal Medicine, reaffirming its commitment to continuing to value ongoing training, rejuvenating staff and retaining talent.
The 23rd National Congress of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, which runs until Saturday at the Aveiro Congress Center, is the largest meeting of professionals in the field of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in the country.
