Jayme Monjardim announces "The Portrait", the sequel to "Time and the Wind"

Director Jayme Monjardim announced last Wednesday (8), in Porto Alegre, the production of "O Retrato", a sequel to "O Tempo e o Vento" (2013), one of the most remarkable films in Rio Grande do Sul cinema. Inspired by the second volume of Érico Veríssimo's work, the film will continue the saga of the Terra Cambará family, a symbol of the transformations and passions that span generations in Rio Grande do Sul. The announcement was made during a chat at the Simões Lopes Neto Theater, with the presence of actor Thiago Lacerda and writer Letícia Wierzchowski.

During the meeting, Monjardim revealed that Thiago Lacerda will return to the big screen as Dr. Rodrigo Cambará, the central character in "The Portrait." The actor previously played the legendary Captain Rodrigo in "The Time and the Wind," a film that drew over 700,000 viewers to theaters and featured names like Fernanda Montenegro , Paulo Goulart, and José de Abreu.

The special evening concluded with a screening of "O Tempo e o Vento" (Time and the Wind), accompanied by a live soundtrack by the Theatro São Pedro Orchestra, conducted by Evandro Matté, and featuring choirs from UFRGS and PUCRS. The event was part of the Legacy Festival, which celebrates Érico Veríssimo's 120th birthday and the 190th anniversary of the Rio Grande do Sul Parliament. Although there is no official confirmation yet, filming is expected to return to the countryside of Bagé, where the iconic Santa Fé Set was built, a setting that marked the history of cinema in Rio Grande do Sul.
