Operation Safe Summer 2025 kicks off

The PSP is starting this Sunday and extending until September 15th the operation Police Always Present — Safe Summer 2025, nationwide. The start of this operation coincides with the beginning of the summer season and the end of the school term, announced the security force.
In a statement released this Sunday, the PSP reports that the summer period “is traditionally marked by significant demographic changes”, namely with the arrival of thousands of tourists to Portugal.
In addition, there are also family trips to summer destinations, the return of popular festivities, summer festivals and the opening of the bathing season.
The PSP explains that it will concentrate its operational capacity in order to “increase the feeling of security in beach, tourist and commercial areas, nightlife areas, residential areas and main road arteries”.
Special attention will be paid to the roads that serve the bathing areas and where there is a greater influx of people and vehicles, as well as a greater number of public transport users.
The authority will also maintain “strong police visibility at access points to the main intercity roads”, monitoring traditional trips to holiday destinations, especially to the south of the country.
There will also be an increase in police presence on beaches and bathing areas, nightlife areas and other places with a high influx of people, motivated by seasonality (tourist areas, summer festivals, country fairs).
Security will also be reinforced at national airports and at air border controls.
The PSP will also increase visibility, prevention and monitoring in the context of road safety, both during large family trips to holiday destinations and during trips to and from summer areas.
In addition, the PSP offers the Safe Summer — Direct Key program and the Estou Aqui! Crianças program.
The “PSP Operation — Portugal Safer Place” will also be implemented with the aim of raising awareness among tourists about the adoption of self-protection measures, not only for their own safety, but also for the safety of their assets in various contexts, in order to reduce the opportunity for criminal offences.
During the operation, the PSP will make available, on its website and social media, various safety tips in the context of road safety, theft prevention and home protection, self-protection measures, child safety, among others.
