Alcolumbre prepares to set up the INSS CPMI with Aziz as president and Bolsonaro rapporteur

The president of the National Congress, SenatorDavi Alcolumbre (União-AP), is preparing for a decisive Tuesday, with the reading of the request that officializes the creation of the CPMI (Parliamentary Inquiry Commission) on the billion-dollar frauds in benefits paid by the INSS (National Institute of Social Security ). The leadership of the collegiate body should be given to Senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM), while the rapporteurship tends to be given to Bolsonarism.
The board will investigate unauthorized discounts on retirements and pensions, a practice that has been intensified since 2019.
The opposition is seeking to capitalize politically on the issue. The Planalto Palace intends to use the commission to demonstrate that the scheme was structured under the administration of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Aziz, who chaired the Covid CPI in 2021, is seen as a name close to the government, although he has acted as an opposition at decisive moments - such as in the session in which he mistreated the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva (Rede) . The rapporteur, which will be held by a deputy, should be occupied by Coronel Crisóstomo (PL-RO) or Coronel Fernanda (PL-MT).
To face the imminent political wear and tear, the government is counting on a group of senators with outstanding performance in past CPIs, such as Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP) and Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES).Renan Calheiros (MDB-AL) was also approached.
The expectation is that the CPMI will have a direct impact on relations between the Executive and Legislative branches, at a time when the government is already facing difficulties in maintaining Lula's presidential vetoes in votes scheduled for this Tuesday the 17th.
