bZ4X improves inside, outside and mechanically

Toyota will launch a renewed version of its bZ4X SUV on the European market in 2025, with an exterior and interior restyling to refresh its image, but with more obvious changes in terms of engines , to make the model more current and competitive. Externally, and despite requiring a closer look, it is still possible to distinguish the new Toyota SUV from the old one, launched on the market in 2023. There are differences in the front and rear bumpers, which are more evident in the former case, where new optical groups also appear, more attractive and with aesthetic solutions more in line with other models of the brand.
Currently, the bZ4X is available in two versions, the 200E and the 220E, the first with only front-wheel drive (4×2) and 204 hp, capable of reaching 160 km/h, 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and 513 km of autonomy, with the second version featuring two engines and four-wheel drive (4×4), with 218 hp and announcing 160 km/h, 6.9 seconds and 416 km. If none of these values are among the highest in the segment, the same is not true of the prices, with the bZ4X 200E 4×2 being proposed for around 47 thousand, 50 thousand and 55 thousand euros, respectively corresponding to the Exclusive, Premium and Lounge versions. The 220E 4×4 is only available at the Premium level for 54 thousand euros, above the segment leader, but not in terms of performance or autonomy.
To reposition this SUV in an increasingly competitive market, Toyota has reinforced the bZ4X's arguments for 2025, starting with its power. The more muscular version, with 4×4 traction and two engines, sees power increase from 218 hp to 343 hp , which improves the 0-100 km/h acceleration from 6.9 to 5.1 seconds. Meanwhile, the “normal” version (with just one engine and 4×2 traction) swaps the previous 204 hp engine for one with 224 hp , which explains the slight improvement in 0-100 km/h, which drops from 7.5 to 7.4 seconds.
The need to offer an SUV at more affordable prices has not been forgotten, with Toyota creating a less powerful version with a smaller battery for 2025, with 167 hp and an accumulator with a total capacity of 57.7 kWh (instead of the 71.4 kWh of the 2023 bZ4X). The 0-100 km/h increase from 7.5 to 8.6 seconds and the autonomy drops from 513 to 445 km, with the price at which this cheaper version will be sold still to be known.
The renewed bZ4X also benefits from improvements in terms of batteries , with a minimal increase - the total capacity increases from just 71.4 to 73.1 kWh -, although Toyota announces a gain in useful capacity of 5 kWh, which implies a reduction in the safety margin. But the Japanese manufacturer will have achieved some advantages in efficiency , since in the 4x4 versions the 2025 bZ4X only increases its total capacity by 2.4%, but sees its autonomy grow by 12.5%, while in the 4x4 versions, with the same difference in the gross capacity of the accumulator, there is an increase of 11.7% in the distance that can be covered between recharges.
